Summary
Legend has it that there was once an evil and vengeful Sultan, by the name of Shahryar. Betrayed by the woman he loved, he vows to never be deceived again. So, each night, he claims in marriage another virgin, and takes her to his bed. And at the dawn of the next day, he commits her to death, so that she may never bring shame to his name.

Then, one day, the Sultan's choice falls on Shahrazad, the daughter of his Grand Vizier, a woman of both extraordinary beauty and mind. And Shahrazad, who some claim was the greatest poet who has ever walked the earth, strikes an extraordinary bargain for her life: She offers the Sultan a tale, one story each night, in return for another day.
